Doctors in Ontario currently have the right to decline to provide non-emergency care that does not conform to their own moral and/or religious beliefs. This allows them to opt out of non-emergency care referrals, such as abortions, contraception and other medical care that violates their own conscience. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) is now reviewing their Human Rights Code policy; the new policy will provide guidelines for physicians practising medicine in Ontario.  There is pressure on the CPSO to include language in their policy that would require doctors to offer or refer patients for such non-emergency care, forcing them to go against their own personal beliefs.  The CPSO is accepting feedback on the website until August 5th - http://policyconsult.cpso.on.ca/?page_id=3403. We strongly urge you to provide feedback using one of the methods suggested and support the right of doctors to follow their own moral and/or religious beliefs in their medical practice.

Mark Your Calendar!!  Parish Winter Banquet
Following our 25th Anniversary Dinner and Dance, many of you enjoyed it so much that you have been asking for another event. So, we have decided to host a Winter Banquet.  It will be a dinner and dance at Le Dome Banquet Centre on Saturday, January 31st.  Tickets will be sold in the fall, but you may want to book it in your calendar now.
The Serra Club of Halton needs YOU!  We are seeking people to come together monthly at Saint Dominic Parish in Oakville to promote and support  vocations to religious life.  We share Mass, a meal, have interesting speakers, and plan ways, as a group, to encourage young men and women to listen to God’s call.  While this helps others, it is also a wonderful opportunity to deepen our own walk with the Lord and strengthen our faith community.  SERRAN’s find ways to do this work in our everyday world of office, home, factory and family. Please join us for a meeting to learn more. Please contact Garth Brown (VP Membership) at 416 459 2730 or garthbrown@sympatico.ca.
